Data Domain: Data Domain Virtual Edition reports ENVIRONMENT-00040: Unsupported virtual hardware configuration
Summary: Unsupported Virtual Hardware configuration alerts will post if the VM Hosting appliance is not provisioned to supply the DDVE with the proper Memory or CPU resources. Upgrading a DDVE to add Cache Tier, or Cloud tier, will require the hosting appliance to provision additional resources to the DDVE View Less

Symptoms
Data Domain Virtual Appliances require dedicated disk storage, memory and CPU resources to perform as expected. The administration guide for your DDVE version will detail the required configurations. Please refer to the proper guide for your DDVE version, and follow the charts to properly provision resources for your DDVE. Addition of CPU and memory resources beyond the recommended configuration will provide no performance improvement.
At the CLI, Verify what resource configuration is given to the DDVE . In this example I have intentionally set the CPU and Memory resources incorrectly
# system vresource show current
CPU sockets: 1
Cores per socket: 4
Memory: 2 GiB
**** This configuration is not supported. Check the resource requirements for supported configurations.
The system vresource show requirements CLI command will provide a basic chart to show you what configurations are suppported
Note that when a DDVE is upgraded to enable a cloud tier, memory and CPU must be increased to allow proper operation of the DDVE
# system vresource show requirements
Active Tier Cloud Tier vCPU Memory

You may encounter the following configuration alert during a DDVE deployment or upgrade. This alert will indicate that the VM hosting appliance is not configured to provide the Data Domain Virtual Appliance with the proper memory or CPU resources. Follow the steps in this document to verify the configuration and make appropriate changes to comply with supported configurations as listed in the administration guides. The same principals in this document will apply to Data Domain Virtual Appliances which are deployed in cloud services (Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure)

Alert Id p0-125970

Severity CRITICAL
Class Environment
Object Component=CPU
Message Unsupported virtual hardware configuration.
Additional Information Cause=CPU reservation must be 5970 MHz at least!
-------------------------------------------------
Cause
When an unsupported resource configuration is detected , an alert will be raised to indicate that the DDVE does not have enough memory or CPU. Whenever the unsupported configuration would cause a severe degrade in Filesystem performance, the Filesystem will be blocked from starting until the unsupported configuration is resolved. If the configuration is significantly insufficient, the DDVE will refuse to boot and you will receive a message from the host appliance that the DDVE was not able to boot due to insufficient resources.
Note: DDOS 6.1.0.x has a known bug where the Data Domain will attempt to start the filesystem even though an invalid configuration has been detected.
When this happens , #filesys status will report the filesystem is starting up , but never comes online. This defect will be fixed in DDOS 6.1.1.x
Not enough CPU resources to allow DDVE to boot up:
Resolution
To resolve unsupported resource configurations, power down the DDVE and make the necessary changes within you hypervisor or administration console. (Vmware, HyperV, AWS, Azure). All allocated resources for DDVE should be set to unlimited to avoid any bottleneck or performance limitation to the DD VM.
